STUDENT LIFE
Lahore Grammar School is more than just an institution; it is a community of young leaders, dreamers, artists and ambitious individuals. Life at LGS is diverse, inclusive and a shared space for people to discover themselves, form bonds and friendships, and pursue their passions.
From our state of the art Dr. Abdus Salam Science Club, where aspiring scientists and inventors can learn, practice and represent Pakistan in competitions around the world; to our sports department, that gives young sportsmen the chance to train, boost their sportsmen spirit and become disciplined individuals. LGSJT is immensely proud of its co-curricular and clubs that give every student the chance to shine, prosper and participate in fields of their passion.
From literature, social work, chess, astronomy to theatre, law, robotics and entrepreneurship; our societies offer students the opportunity to learn, grow, excel and lead in various activities and interests.
Dr Abdus Salam Science Club
One of the most popular societies at LGS JT, we won ARSSDC 2016 in India after a fierce battle with teams from all over the world and are looking forward to another fierce competition at the Space Camp in the USA. Even in the harsh times of Covid-19 pandemic, our talented and enthusiastic young scientists participated in numerous online events and bagged multiple awards at OPF Triathlon and LUMS Sigma.
This year, our society also won Galactica at LUMS PsiFi and we won 1st and 2nd prizes at the Pakistan Young Physicists’ Tournament his year. Seven of our students made it to the top 50 training camp for the National Mathematics Talent Contest. We also won first prize in Literary Merit Category at NASA/NSS (AMES 2020). Our previous winnings include: SiCAS Emerge, UET ROBOCOM and a win in the OPF Triathlon Robotics, RTI and TechWars at PSiFi ‘17 and we were first runners up in Avionics Math Gauge. The society has also won LUMS PSIFI Best Delegation multiple times.
Dr. Abdus Salam Science Club is known across Pakistan for its annual science olympiad “Innoventions”. It is attended by 600+ delegates from all over the world every year and has become a hallmark of science competitions par excellence around the country.
Mian Iftikhar-ud-Din Debating Society
The Mian Iftikhar ud-din Debating Society continues to shine as our school facilitates debaters by providing dedicated coaches for both English and Urdu debate. With some of the best public speakers in Pakistan, the Society won 13 trophies last year at extremely competitive debate tournaments hosted all over the country. Public speaking is encouraged in numerous platforms at JT and we have in-house debating coaches, who undertake the training of our students, and have played a pivotal role in producing these best speakers of all times who have represented Pakistan at the World School Debating Championships. Since the pandemic posed new challenges for all of us, our avid debaters found new venues to continue with their argumentative skills and participated in numerous online events this year.
Sports Department
Encouraging students to explore a variety of interests and grow into well-rounded individuals has been one of the foremost concerns of LGS Johar Town. The Sports Society is the largest society on campus. Last year, it continued the tradition of organizing the annual JT SportsFest, which was attended by over 1200 delegates. With excellent teams for a vast variety of sports, the society won the Best Delegation award at UCL SportsFest and City School Ravi SpotsFest among a plethora of other awards at Olympiads across the country. The society has multiple coaches, regularly holds trials and forms teams of varying levels of skill so everyone has an opportunity to join and grow.
Akhtar Hameed Khan Social Work Society
Sensitive to the plight of marginalized communities, our students ardently volunteer with NGOs such as Next Generation Pakistan, Taleem, Awaz and Educatree. In light of Lahore’s worsening smog crisis, club members organized a seminar by Climate Action Now as part of the Social Responsibility Program at JTMUN. The seminar inspired students to play their part in mitigating the effects of global warming. In a ground-breaking initiative, the club leadership launched panel discussions, starting with one on feminism. This was a much needed and lauded event that raised awareness on the disenfranchisement of gender minorities and encouraged our students to become active allies.
Model United Nations
Our Model United Nations Society is one our most active societies. JTMUN is applauded as one of the largest and most competitive MUNs of Pakistan. One of the most celebrated achievements for our MUN society was their historical win at Istanbol MUN ‘18 (MUNIST), where JT was amongst the only two teams from Pakistan to participate. Our team has won the coveted Best Delegation Award at LAMUN, LGSMUN, 55MUN, TSMUN and BMIDC (Beaconhouse Margalla Islamabad) while individual members also won Best Delegate awards at LUMUN and LGS Phase V. This year, in spite of the Covid-19 situation, our avid public speakers and diplomats continued to engage in constructive criticisms and bagged multiple awards in LACAS MUN, OPF MUN and ACMUN.
